Greetings Louisburg UMC,

I hope that all of you are staying warm on this frigid weekend. Because of the cold temperatures and the possibility of snow, we decided that there will only be one service on Sunday. You can attend the 10:30 service through the live-stream or in church. There will be no 8:30 service.

Next Wednesday, February 17 is Ash Wednesday. This is the beginning of the Lenten season. Lent marks 40 days before Easter (minus Sunday's which are sabbath days and don't count). We will have 2 opportunities to mark the beginning of Lent. I will be available from 12:00 to 1:00 if you would like to drop by the church for prayer and to receive ashes. We will also have a service at 7:00 pm you can attend live or participate through the live-stream.

In addition to Ash Wednesday service at 7pm, next wednesday marks the start of our Winter Wednesday schedule: M&M Club will run from 5:30-6:45, middle school youth group from 6-6:45, Confirmation classes 6-6:30, and high school youth group is from 8-9pm.

In worship on Sunday, we are continuing through "The Ten Commandments," with the third commandment "You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God..." Exodus 20:7. Many time's this commandment is translated that you shall not use the Lord's name in vain. What is God really talking about here? Does God really get upset with us when in a moment of fear or surprise we use God's name? As is the case with many of the scriptures, there is more to the story. I hope you will join us Sunday at 10:30 to dig deeper into the third commandment.

Blessings,
Pastor Brad
